The Municipality of South Huron is inviting the community to celebrate soccer and the people who help support the local farming industry.
The first-ever International Agri-Food Worker Cup and 2026 FIFA World Cup Final Watch Party will take place on Sunday, July 19th.
Community Relations Manager Stacey Jeffrey says the event was created after local employers and community organizations discussed ways to better support international agri-food workers.
Jeffrey says these workers play an important role in the local economy and farming community.
More than 80 international workers have already signed up to take part in the soccer tournament. The event will also include a live viewing of the FIFA World Cup Final beginning at 3 p.m.
The event is free to attend, and everyone is welcome. Free snacks and drinks will be available for those who attend.
Jeffrey says the tournament is a chance to recognize the contributions of international workers while also celebrating their love of soccer.
The event is part of the Strengthening the Agri-Food Sector in South Huron project, a partnership between the Municipality of South Huron and the Huron County Immigration Partnership. The project is supported through the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership and focuses on helping international workers feel more connected to the community.
Residents planning to attend are encouraged to respond to the event on the Municipality of South Huron’s Facebook page so organizers can prepare for the crowd.
