Huron Hospice is inviting the community to take part in its 10th annual Butterfly Release, a special event that gives people a chance to remember loved ones while supporting hospice care.
Huron Hospice Manager of Development and Communications Christopher Walker told myFM about the event.
Walker says butterflies are a symbol of transformation and hope. He says the event gives families a meaningful way to honour someone they have lost while creating lasting memories together.
The deadline to purchase a butterfly is August 3rd so the hospice can place its order with the butterfly breeder.
Money raised from the event helps fund Huron Hospice programs, including care at Bender House, in-home hospice and respite services, and grief and bereavement support. All of these services are provided at no cost to families.
For Walker, the event holds a very special meaning.
The event will be held on August 30th at Bender House at Huron Hospice. Participants can purchase a butterfly for $40 and release it during a memorial ceremony. The butterflies will then continue their natural migration south.
