It’s week 4 of Coolman Fuels Growing Up On The Farm; local families building the future of agriculture — one generation at a time…fueled by Kubota.
For more than 50 years, the Vander Vloet family has been producing milk at Vloden Farms, and today the third generation is proud to carry on the family tradition.
Paul and Krissy Vander Vloet now run the dairy farm that Paul’s grandparents started in the 1970s. This year marks 51 years of milk production on the family farm.
The farm is home to about 110 milking cows, along with around 100 young calves and heifers. The cows are milked twice a day, starting at 4:30 every morning and again in the afternoon. Between milking, the family feeds and cares for the animals while also growing crops to feed the herd throughout the year.
Paul says farming is a seven-day-a-week job, but it’s one the whole family enjoys. Their three children are already helping around the farm and learning what it takes to care for the animals.
Paul says there are many different career opportunities in agriculture, from farming and trucking to equipment sales and animal nutrition. He encourages anyone interested in agriculture to explore the many paths available.
Looking ahead, the Vander Vloets hope to continue improving their farm while raising their family and producing high-quality milk for communities across Ontario.
