Residents may have noticed some new banners appearing on lamp posts around Waterford.
The Waterford and District Veterans Banner Association is behind the new initiative, which aims to recognize and remember veterans with ties to the community.
The program launched earlier this year, with plans to display 20 banners at key locations around Waterford ahead of Remembrance Day.
Association Chair Rick Hoffman says the idea was inspired by similar veterans banner programs in Port Rowan and South Walsingham.
The banners will honour deceased veterans from Waterford and surrounding communities, including Vanessa, Teeterville and Windham Centre.
Each banner will include a photo of the veteran along with some information about their life and military service.
The project will also go beyond what people see on the lamp posts. Hoffman says researchers are working to compile more detailed biographies of each veteran being honoured.
Organizers hope the banners will help keep the stories of local veterans alive while giving residents a chance to learn more about the people from their own communities who served.
A dedication ceremony is planned for Sunday, September 6th, at 1:00 PM at the Waterford Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 123.
