Rural communities and small businesses in Ontario can now apply for funding to help support economic growth and development.
MPP for Huron-Bruce and Minister of Rural Affairs, Lisa Thompson, says a new round of applications is open for the Rural Ontario Development Program.
Applications are being accepted until October 1st.
The program replaces the former Rural Economic Development Program and is designed to help rural communities create new opportunities, support local businesses and strengthen the economy.
Funding is available to municipalities, not-for-profit organizations, Indigenous communities and organizations, local services boards and small businesses with one to 20 employees.
Projects can focus on areas such as attracting and keeping businesses, creating jobs, workforce development, economic planning and improving community facilities.
Some community projects can receive up to 50 per cent cost-sharing, with funding of up to $150,000. Other projects, including community events and smaller business projects, can receive up to 35 per cent cost-sharing.
Small brick-and-mortar businesses in rural Ontario with one to 20 employees can apply for up to 35 per cent cost-sharing through the Business Development Stream, to a maximum of $10,000.
The program is aimed at helping rural communities and businesses grow, create jobs and build a stronger local economy.
Applications must be submitted by October 1st, 2026.
