Bluewater Councillor Winona Sangster is sharing her personal experience with endometriosis to help raise awareness about the condition.
Endometriosis can cause significant pain and affect many parts of a person’s life according to Sangster.
Sangster says her symptoms started when she had her first period at age 12. For years, she went back and forth to doctors looking for answers.
She was eventually diagnosed with endometriosis after having laparoscopic surgery.
Sangster has now written a book based on her experience. It combines her personal story with information and resources to help people manage the condition and advocate for themselves.
It also includes inspirational quotes, colouring pages, ideas for managing pain, information about diet and other resources.
Sangster says she wanted the book to feel like someone is sitting beside the reader and remind them they are not alone.
She hopes the book will also help friends, partners and family members better understand what someone with endometriosis may be going through.
She hopes her story gives others hope and reminds them that there is a community of people working toward better treatment and care.
Five dollars from each book sold will be donated to the Endometriosis Network of Canada.
More information about the book can be found through Endo Warriors Trek on Instagram and at endowarriorstrek.ca and becreativepfd.ca.
