OPP is reminding parents about the rules for e-scooters, especially as more young people are using them.
OPP Constable Craig Soldan says the stats on E-Scooters is very concerning.
He reminds parents that children under 16 are not allowed to operate an e-scooter.
That means they cannot ride them on roads, sidewalks, parks or trails. Wearing a helmet does not change the age requirement.
Soldan says police are concerned about young children riding e-scooters.
For riders over 16, e-scooters can be used in certain areas, but there are rules to follow. Riders must have the required equipment, including lights and reflectors, and e-scooters cannot travel faster than 24 kilometres per hour.
Riders under 18 must wear a helmet. Police also recommend that adults wear one for added safety.
Soldan says officers will be keeping an eye on e-scooter use, especially around schools, as part of their back-to-school safety patrols.
He says the goal is to educate the public, enforce the rules when needed and help make sure everyone gets to school and home safely.
