It’s the last long weekend of the summer and the Municipality of South Huron is reminding residents about local fireworks rules and safety guidelines to help keep holiday celebrations safe.
Under the South Huron fireworks bylaw, fireworks can only be set off between dusk and 11 p.m. on Victoria Day and Canada Day. Officials say fireworks are not allowed on any other days of the year. Fireworks can also only be sold or given to people aged 18 and older, and sales or displays are only permitted between May 1st and July 10th.
Residents who want to report fireworks concerns or complaints are asked to contact the OPP non-emergency line at 1-888-310-1122.
Fire officials are encouraging people to attend organized public fireworks displays whenever possible, noting they are managed by trained professionals with proper safety measures in place.
Anyone planning to host a private or group fireworks event must first get approval from the South Huron Fire Chief. Requests must be submitted in writing and include details such as the date, location, and qualifications of the person responsible for the display.
