It’s first Crabby Joe’s game day! The Exeter Hawks face off against Petrolia tonight at 8pm at the South Huron Recreation Centre in Exeter.
Exeter Hawks forward Justin Skirten is getting ready for his final season of junior hockey, and he’ll be doing it in his hometown.
Skirten is entering his second season with the Hawks and has been named an assistant captain this year.
Skirten says he enjoys being in a leadership role and hopes to use that experience to help the Hawks have a successful season.
His hockey career started in Exeter, where he played minor hockey before moving up to AAA. He later played Junior B and was drafted by the London Knights. Last season, Skirten decided to return home and join the Exeter Hawks.
He says it’s a special feeling to finish his junior career where he first learned to love the game.
The team is still working out some details early in the season, but Skirten says the players are already bought in and excited about what they can accomplish.
The Hawks are also preparing for a physical game against Petrolia. Skirten says the team will need to stick to its game plan, play physically and get plenty of shots on net.
He also had plenty of praise for the Hawks fans.
Skirten is encouraging fans to come out and support the team at their next game.
Go and cheer on your hometown Hawks! Come before or after the game and fuel up at Crabby Joe’s in Exeter!
