Here’s what Darren Boyle, running for Ward 3 in South Huron had to say.
TRANSCRIBED AUDIO:
“This is Darren Boyle and I am running for Councillor Ward 3 in the municipality of South Huron. I am running because I feel that it is the next best step in my community involvement.
While I don’t have past political experience, I do have a vast amount of experience in running and being a part of various organizations and volunteering with them in the community. Such as I am currently a director for the South Huron Arts Centre. I’m also a very active member of the South Huron Community Theatre. I’m the past president of the Exeter Hawks and still serve on the executive there. I am also a former co-chair of the community committee for South Huron of the United Way Perth Huron. I’m a former volunteer coach with South Huron Minor Hockey. I’m also a past president of Exeter Minor Ball and I’m a retired firefighter in Exeter before amalgamation. My current career involves me dealing with the municipality and other municipalities, which gives me lot of experience in selling and knowing how procurement, tenders, bids, and other such activities that municipalities use in order to conduct business.
I don’t think there’s any one biggest issue for our community. The reason why I’m running in Ward 3 is to be an advocate and be a voice for Ward 3. A lot of times, some of the things that we do in the municipality seem very centered on Exeter, and while I do live in Exeter, I feel I am a resident of South Huron.
Exeter only exists as a postal code.
Some of the things that people are talking about are recreation, which is a passion of mine, having been a former coach for minor hockey, minor ball, and my kids did swimming lessons both in Exeter and Kirkton, and one of the things being bantered about is an aquatic center. While that’s all well and good, an aquatic center could cause a serious look at the Kirkton Woodham Pool, which could close and that would do a huge disservice to those in the east part of the municipality.
Voting for me would be the right choice to do because I have been so involved in the community over the past 20 years and even before I got married. Ward 3 has a special place in my heart as my wife and her entire family are from there and have deep roots on Hearn Line and Elimville Line, and I do feel that even though I was born and raised in Exeter as a South Uren resident, it is incumbent upon me to make sure that all of South Uren gets looked after, not just the ward in which I live. I live in South Huron. Thank you, that is all.”
