A comedy show poking fun at 1950s housewife culture is coming to Port Dover, with plenty of audience participation along the way.
Leave it to Cleavage, starring comedians Diana Frances and Port Dover native Karen Parker, takes the stage at Lighthouse Theatre on October 15.
Frances originally created the show in British Columbia after discovering an old list of tips for being a “good housewife.” She says those outdated rules were perfect.
Years later, Frances and Parker revamped the concept as a two-person show, mixing scripted comedy with improv, exaggerated 1950s costumes and plenty of interaction with the crowd.
Audience members help shape scenes throughout the night, meaning no two performances are exactly the same. Parker says that interaction is where the pair really feels at home.
Parker says a diverse crowd only gives the comedians more material to work with.
The Port Dover stop also serves as a homecoming for Parker, who grew up in the community and once volunteered as an usher at Lighthouse Theatre before later performing there professionally.
She says seeing the theatre continue to thrive means a lot, particularly when many arts organizations are facing challenges.
Frances says another big part of the show is the chemistry she shares with Parker.
Frances and Parker describe the show as saucy, cheeky and inclusive, using their friendship and improv experience to bring the audience into the fun.
Tickets for the October 15 performance are available through Lighthouse Theatre.
