Things to do in Exeter Grand Bend: A little tech, a little craft & a lot of community

Here’s what’s going on in Exeter Grand Bend over the next 48 hours.

TODAY: Tech Time 9:30 am – 10:30 am Join at the Blyth Branch for Tech Time support to receive one-on-one help with library e-resources, your devices, and/or your email account. Lessons are limited to the technical knowledge of library staff. This is for participants that are 8 and older.

TODAY: Pop-up Crafty Kids Club. Join at the Dashwood Community Centre for Pop-up Youth Crafty Kids Club on October 6th, from 4:00pm – 4:45pm. Participants will make a suncatcher and fall themed puzzle to bring home! This program is for youth ages 7-10 years. The cost of registration is $5.00. To register, complete the Youth Crafty Kids Club Registration Form. Completed forms can be sent to communityservices@southhuron.ca.

TODAY: Service Canada at the Exeter Library Branch. Service Canada scheduled outreach at the Exeter Branch. Access to Government of Canada services, benefits and documentation. TODAY: Public Skating (SHRC). FREE public skating at the South Huron Recreation Centre on Sunday, Tuesday & Thursday from 11:00 AM to 11:50 AM. No pre registration required, skate aids are available. Public Skating Rules:

Maintain reasonable control of your speed, course and direction. Do not skate in groups. Do not stop where you obstruct other skaters.
No speed skating, figure skating maneuvers or hockey equipment such as sticks and pucks are allowed on the ice.
Parents/Guardians must be within sight and control of their children. Do no leave children unattended.
Ice skates required – no street shoes.
Ice skates are sharp. Do not have your hands on the floor or on the ice where they can be stepped on by a blade.
Children aged 10 and under must wear a CSA-certified hockey helmet at all times. Helmets are strongly recommended for all other participants.
Maintain a proper lookout to avoid other skaters, objects, or conditions on the ice surface. Report any hazards to arena staff.
No skating while under the influence of drugs, alcohol or other control impairing substances.
Leave the ice surface when resurfacing maintenance is taking place. Keep exits clear and do not sit on the dasher boards. Before getting on the rink, look for oncoming skaters.
No food or drink on the rink surface or surrounding dasher or cap rail.
Do not carry children or items while skating.
No headphones are to be worn or use of PDA’s or cellular phones used while skating.
Do not act in a manner that may cause or contribute to injury of yourself or any other person.
Do not throw or leave objects on the rink surface.
Report any injuries or accidents to staff prior to leaving the facility.
Please respect your facility.

TOMORROW: Play and Read- Exeter Branch. Join the Huron County Library and Huron EarlyON every Wednesday morning at the Exeter Branch for interactive play, stories and songs. This program is geared towards parents/caregivers and children 0-6 years. Contact Exeter Library 519-235-1890

TOMORROW: Seaforth Library – Knitting and Crochet Group Love knitting, crocheting or crafting, and enjoy good company and conversation? Join this community led program! Everyone is welcome to participate. This is a drop-in program, no registration necessary.

TOMORROW: Youth Indoor Soccer Skills Program. Take your game to the next level this off season! Join Youth Indoor Soccer Skills program designed to help young players build confidence, improve technique and stay sharp during the off season. Whether you are looking to develop stronger ball control, improve footwork or become more comfortable in one-on-one situations, this program provides a fun and challenging environment for players of all skill levels. This program is for youth ages 10-14 years. Led by a coach with high-level playing experience, this program combines technical development with real-game experience to help players grow on and off the field.

Throughout the program, athletes will focus on:

Dribbling
Passing and receiving
First touch and ball control
Shooting and finishing
Speed, agility and decision making
Small-sided games

This program will take place on Wednesdays from October 7th to November 11th from 5:10pm – 6:00pm at the South Huron District High School, large gym (92 Gidley St E, Exeter). TOMORROW: Coffee, Cards & Checkmate/ Shuffleboard. Join at the Dashwood Community Centre on Wednesday afternoons from 1:00pm – 3:30pm for Coffee, Cards & Checkmates/Shuffleboard! Whether you love Euchre, Pepper, Cribbage, Chess, Checkers, or a friendly game of shuffleboard, there’s a place for you. Enjoy coffee, great conversation, and a welcoming atmosphere where all skill levels are encouraged to join the fun.

The cost to participate is $3.00. No pre-registration required.

Exeter Hawks:

The Exeter Hawks will hit the ice three times this week, visiting Thamesford Wednesday at 8:30 p.m., before hosting Port Stanley Friday at 8 p.m. and again Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the South Huron Arena.

Clinton Radars:

The Clinton Radars will be in action twice this weekend, visiting Mitchell Friday at 8:30 p.m. before travelling to Wingham Saturday for a 5 p.m. puck drop.
