The Huron County OPP is inviting local residents to get an inside look at policing through its first annual Citizen’s Police Academy.
The free program will give community members a chance to learn about the work of the Ontario Provincial Police through interactive sessions with officers and specialists.
Participants will hear from members of several OPP specialty units, including Major Crime, the Emergency Response Team and Forensic Identification. The sessions will be led by officers and other experts who will share their knowledge and experience.
The OPP says the program is open to anyone who wants to learn more about local policing, whether they are considering a career in law enforcement or simply want to better understand the work officers do.
The academy will run Wednesday evenings from October 28th to December 2nd, from 6 to 8 p.m. Sessions will be held at the Huron OPP detachment on Albert Street in Clinton.
The OPP is looking for community-minded residents who are 18 or older and come from a variety of backgrounds and life experiences. Preference will be given to applicants who are interested in a career in policing.
Applications must be submitted by October 19th. Successful applicants will need to provide valid photo identification and complete a security check.
The Citizen’s Police Academy is a chance for residents to learn more about the people, training and work behind the OPP while gaining a better understanding of the challenges officers face every day.
