For 20 years, the South Huron Trail Mobile has helped people with limited mobility enjoy the outdoors and experience nature along the South Huron Trail.
The program, launched in 2006, is celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2026. It relies on generous community donations and volunteer drivers to give people a chance to enjoy a nature experience they might not otherwise have.
The newest Trail Mobile was purchased in 2025 and can carry up to five passengers. It is the third modified cart used in the program since it began.
The program has also received recognition for its work. In 2025, the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Foundation received a Huron County Award of Merit for Barrier-Free Access in recognition of the Trail Mobile.
As colder weather approaches, the Trail Mobile season is winding down. Rides are expected to resume when warmer weather returns in the spring.
People interested in arranging a ride can contact the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority at 519-235-2610 or toll-free at 1-888-286-2610 during regular business hours. Rides depend on weather conditions and volunteer availability.
Donations to support the program can be made through the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Foundation website. More information about the Trail Mobile is available at abca.ca.
