It’s Crabby Joe’s game day! The Exeter Hawks face off against North Middlesex tonight at 8pm at the South Huron Recreation Centre in Exeter.
The Exeter Hawks have a new face in net this season, and goalie Callum Besley is already enjoying his time with the team.
Besley, is from St. Thomas and is playing his first season with the Hawks after spending last year with the Aylmer Spitfires.
Besley went on to play AAA hockey with the Cambridge Hawks and Sarnia Sting before moving into junior hockey.
After facing Exeter as an opponent last season, he liked what he saw and wanted to join the team.
Now that he is part of the Hawks, Besley says the strong bond between players and coaches has helped create an exciting environment.
He says everyone is invested in the team, making players eager to show up for games and practices.
The support from fans has also stood out to him. Even when he played against Exeter, Besley noticed how busy the arena was and how excited the crowd was during games.
He says seeing fans high-five players as they walk through the tunnel is a great example of the community’s support.
One of his favourite moments this season came during a comeback win, when the Hawks were trailing 3-1 before turning the game around. Besley says the team’s determination, along with the growing noise from the crowd after each goal, helped build momentum.
As the season continues, Besley says fans can expect him to become even more focused when the playoffs arrive.
For now, he is looking forward to the Hawks’ upcoming home game against the North Middlesex Stars.
Besley hopes the Hawks can put on a strong performance and give their fans plenty to cheer about.
Go and cheer on your hometown Hawks! Come before or after the game and fuel up at Crabby Joe’s in Exeter!
