Visitors to Lynnwood Arts will be stepping back to 1902 this November for an immersive theatre experience built around a real Simcoe wedding.
“With this Ring” runs November 12th through 15th and is the latest historical production written and directed by Jan Rainey, this year working alongside co-writer Melissa Collver.
Rainey says returning audiences can expect something completely different from the previous productions at Lynnwood.
The story is inspired by the 1902 marriage of Duncan Frederick Campbell, grandson of the man who built Lynnwood, and Annie O’Reilly, the daughter of another prominent Simcoe resident.
Historical research helped build the foundation, while the writers imagined the conversations and personal moments surrounding the wedding.
Rather than watching from traditional theatre seats, audiences will be guided through Lynnwood in groups of no more than 23 people. Five connected vignettes unfold in different rooms, giving visitors the feeling they have walked directly into the household on the night of the wedding.
More than 50 participants will help bring the experience to life, complete with period costumes, furniture and music. The cast also includes children’s and adult mini choirs.
Beyond sharing a piece of local history, the production has an important role in supporting the historic Simcoe arts centre.
Three performances will begin each night at 6:30, 7 and 7:30 p.m., with each experience lasting about 90 minutes. The 7:30 p.m. performance is the accessible show, with elevator use available.
With only 23 people in each group and a limited number of performances, organizers are encouraging people to book early. Money raised through “With this Ring” will support Lynnwood Arts and its ongoing work in the community.
