After eight years on South Huron council, incumbent Mayor George Finch says he plans to retire from politics after losing his bid for re-election in tonight’s municipal election.
Finch says he is proud of the campaign he ran.
He says he respects the decision made by voters and wishes the incoming council well.
Looking back on his time in municipal politics, Finch says one of the biggest lessons he learned was the importance of working together.
Finch says he does not expect to run for office again. He plans to spend more time with his family, including his grandson.
He says he is looking forward to enjoying retirement and having more time to do the things he wants to do.
Finch also thanked the community for the opportunity to serve South Huron and says he looks forward to seeing what the new council will bring forward.
