Huron County paramedics could be heading to the picket lines as contract talks continue between the county and their union.
CUPE 4513 held a strike vote following two days of meetings with members. Ninety-nine per cent of those who voted supported giving the union permission to call a strike if needed.
This is the first time Huron County’s 112 paramedics have held a strike vote.
The union says paramedics have received a total of six dollars in wage increases since their last contract, while inflation has reached nearly 29 per cent over the same period. Seven paramedics have also left Huron County Paramedic Services since the previous contract expired.
The two sides are scheduled to return to the bargaining table on November 23rd and 24th as they continue working toward a new agreement.
A strike is not automatic following the vote. It gives the union the ability to take further action if an agreement cannot be reached.
