Crime Prevention Week is underway across Ontario, with police services encouraging residents to take an active role in keeping their communities safe.
Running November 1st to 7th, this year’s campaign carries the theme “Protecting Ontario Together.”
The annual initiative highlights the importance of partnerships between police, residents, businesses and community organizations in preventing crime before it happens.
Residents are being encouraged to take simple steps to help reduce crime, including locking vehicles and removing valuables, securing doors and windows, watching for suspicious activity and being alert to telephone, email and online scams.
Getting to know your neighbours, looking out for one another and reporting suspicious activity can also make a difference.
Crime prevention isn’t just the responsibility of police. It requires everyone to play a part in creating safer neighbourhoods.
The message behind this year’s theme is straightforward: safer communities happen when people work together and look out for one another.
