Police are issuing yet another reminder not to call 9-1-1 to complain about AMBER Alerts waking you up because the dispatchers do not want to hear it.
The OPP released a statement Thursday (july 11) hours after an Amber Alert was issued and cancelled when the children were later found safe, reminding people that 9-1-1 is not a complaint service.
OPP Staff Sergeant Stacey Whaley says they can deal with the frustration which has grown from police even having to share the reminder, it’s the impact these calls have which is hard to accept.
Whaley said this is how the AMBER Alert system works and how it will stay. He said while it seems practical, it’s the government’s responsibility as to looking into charging these callers with improper use of 9-1-1.
