This is the last week of the elective summer learning program for students in grades 1 and 2 in the Avon Maitland District School Board. In first grade the 3 week long course focuses on reading fluency. Grade 2 students concentrate on numeracy or math.
Adrienne Jacques the Administrator of the program for schools in the AMDSB says they’ve been offering this opportunity to the families of young students as a way to bridge what Jacques calls “summer learning
loss.”
Jacques says it’s a 5 day a week full day program. The morning is devoted
to academic learning. The afternoon is for recreation. The program is in its
tenth year. This summer classes locally are being held at EXETER ELEMENTARY School. There are also programs in Wingham and Stratford.
