According to a Feed Ontario study, in 2018, over 507 thousand people accessed a food bank in Ontario, for a total of over 3 million visits.
In Huron Bruce alone, 2189 people accessed a Feed Ontario Food Bank, including 1406 adults and 783 children, with the total visits to food banks over 11 thousand.
Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson says she knows that food banks are in high demand and the government is helping with food insecurity where they can.
Thompson added another way of helping is by providing low-income seniors with free dental care.
She says despite Huron-Bruce being rich with crops, the federal carbon tax is making things more expensive which is why it’s so expensive for fresh food that has to be shipped
Our local MPP says the government is open to discussions with agencies and front line food bank workers to discuss ideas on how to work better together
