The OPP wants you to move over for emergency service vehicles that are pulled over. The OPP says that last year more tickets and fines were issued for the move law than any other year since it became a law in Ontario in 2003.
The law requires you to move over and slow down for emergency service vehicles including tow trucks that are on the side of the road.
In the last 5 years the OPP says there have been close to 700 incidents where one of their vehicles was struck by another vehicle while parked on the side of the road.
The law is meant to provide safety for both emergency service workers and those needing assistance on the roads. The fine is $400 and 3 demerit points.
