Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MPP Monte McNaughton has responded to the changes announced last week (aug 20) coming to municipalities. 30% of health care services and 20% of child care services funding will now be covered by municipalities in an effort to cut costs provincially.
Previously these services had their entire bill footed by the provincial government. McNaughton says he has a good relationship with the ridings municipal leaders and so does the province, when asked for his response to the reaction to the cuts.
He says they listened to municipalities when they stopped the cuts in 2019 when they said their budgets had already been passed, and reduced municipalities having to pay for 50% of their healthcare services to 30%.
