A local business is closing shop after 124 years in operation. Pine River Cheese and Butter Cooperative announced on Friday (6th) that they will be ceasing operations.
CEO Ulrike Prehn tells myFM news that shareholders decided to pull the plug on the cooperative due to ongoing market pressures and rising costs resulting low product margins.
She says they also haven’t fully recovered from a fire at the plant in 2010. Prehn says employees at the plant took the news of the closure hard.
Prehn says the plan is to shut down the plant at the end of the month. She says the retail store will continue to operate until they have cleared their inventory.
