Perth County OPP Auxiliary Units are going around local communities in an effort to keep you safe. It’s all about their SafeGuard Ontario Property Security Program.
The program is a community-based crime prevention program aimed t reducing break and enters, increasing support for victims of crime, reducing re-victimization, and engaging and empowering citizens to take a role in preventing crimes.
Tips to help prevent crimes include:
1) Locking doors and windows before leaving home
2) install motion lights or leave an exterior light on to illuminate entrances
3) Don’t hide keys in secret places, instead leave with a friend or neighbour
4) Record or take photos of serial numbers on your property
5) Don’t leave tools out that could help a criminal break into your property
6) Form relationships with neighbours and check up on one another
7) If you are going to be away make sure your residence looks occupied.
8) Don’t post that you are away on social media
9) If you discover a break and enter contact police right away, and don’t enter your property as valuable evidence could be disturbed.
