Depending on how talks go between the government and the Canadian Union of Public Employees some local parents may have to make alternative arrangements for their children on Monday.
CUPE says their 55 thousand members which include custodians, educational assistants, early childhood educators, secretaries, library and computer technicians, and other school-based and central staff will walk off the job Monday if a new agreement isn’t reached.
This potential strike effects local students in the Lambton-Kent District School Board, and the Huron-Perth District Catholic School Board.
Both local school boards have issued statements which state if CUPE employees do walk off the job, schools in both the Huron-Perth District Catholic School Board and the LKDSB will be closed.
If the strike does happen before and after school programs will not be able to run either at those locations.
The impending strike does NOT impact students that attend schools in the Avon Maitland District School Board.
