A new program aims to encourage tardy library users to return their overdue books and materials.
Huron County Library is having “Fine-free October”, a program where people can come in to update their information and participate in a survey, and in return have their outstanding fines forgiven.
County Librarian and Director of Cultural Services Beth Rumble says they are finding that people have been unable to pay the fines and it is discouraging them to return the books so others can borrow them.
Rumble says they had a program where people can donate a non-perishable food item in lieu of late fees but that no longer became feasible.
