Elections Canada says it’s an excellent sign that advanced polling numbers are much higher than what they were in 2015. Across Thanksgiving weekend, 4.9 million Canadians casted their vote, a 29 percent jump from the previous election.
Regional Media Advisor Pierre Cadieux says accessibility has been higher than ever and that likely played a roll in the turnout boost.
Cadieux added you can expect Elections Canada to offer these extended hours for advanced polls in the next election. As for riding-specific voting numbers, he says they’re not in yet and doesn’t anticipate them being available until tomorrow (oct 18) at the earliest.
