A man is dead following a police-related shooting in Exeter.
The incident took place last night (Tuesday) at 6:40 PM when the OPP and South Huron firefighters were called to a residence on Simcoe Street for reports of a fire.
Police say that officers entered onto the property and a confrontation took place with a man. The man suffered serious injuries and was transported from the scene to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
myFM attended the scene and noticed several OPP vehicles, and the investigation is ongoing.
The OPP has notified the Special Investigations Unit who have invoked their mandate.
The SIU said in a Tweet ” (Quote) SIU investigating fatal police-involved shooting in Exeter. More information to be released in the morning.”
The SIU is a civilian law enforcement agency that investigates incidents involving police officers where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
