Lock it or Lose it. It’s a common term coined and re-iterated by Perth County OPP yet they’re still seeing too many cases where residents aren’t listening.
The detachment says officers have responded to several reports of stolen vehicles and vehicle entries since January this year and many of these thefts could have been prevented by locking the doors and pocketing the keys.
In some cases, residents have reported that their garages were entered as a result of the suspect(s) having access to garage door openers after entering an unlocked vehicle.
Ways to prevent being a victim of theft include locking your doors, vehicles, and windows.
Always park your vehicle in a well-lit area while emptying out all valuables within them.
And remember to turn on your vehicle security system and to never leave it unattended while its running.
