Several hockey legends were in Goderich to help unveil some revamped space at Alexandra Marine and General Hospital.
Six new Smilezone spaces officially opened yesterday (THU) that include new TV sets, video game consoles, artwork, and other amenities designed to help make a patient’s hospital stay more enjoyable.
The official grand opening was held at the Maitland Recreation Centre.
Smilezone is a charitable organization based in Oakville founded by contractor Scott Bachly and former NHLer Adam Graves.
Others on hand include hockey great Ron Ellis, Mike Krushelnyski, Paul Henderson, and Hockey Night in Canada host Ron MacLean.
Henderson lives in the Goderich area and says it is amazing how some renovations to an area can brighten someone’s day.
Hospital President and CEO Bruce Quigley says there is a painting of the famous photo of Henderson’s game-winning goal in the 1972 Canada-Russia series in one of the spaces that put a smile on the faces of two men who were waiting for treatment.
He says that is a testament of the work of Smilezone.
