You should quit smoking because you want to and you feel the time is right, not simply because the calendar says it’s January.
That’s the message Middlesex London Health Unit’s Program Manager for Chronic Disease Prevention and Tobacco Control Linda Stobo says.
Stobo says timing is important, and external pressures can contribute to someone wanting to quit the addiction, but only if they’re willing to go through the ups and downs.
Stobo says it’s important to create a positive surrounding and support the person trying to quit smoking as a family member, friend, or co-worker. Re-assuring them if they slip up is needed, rather than a lecture or mockery.
