Rotating teacher strikes through the larger unions in the province continue as the union and government remain far apart on contentious contract talks.
In a move the province says is to support parents, those with children up to age 12 or up to age 21 for children and youth with special needs in a publicly funded school qualify for financial support due to do the ongoing strikes.
Huron-Bruce MPP and former Minister of Education Lisa Thompson told myFM the several millions this will cost to fund the cash infusion is not new money.
She feels the province has been more than reasonable during these negotiations, including compromising on class sizes and decreased the e-learning requirements from 4 until 2. She also feels a 1% raise for teachers is fair, while the union is asking for 2%.
Eligible parents can apply for the financial support online up to four weeks after the labour disruption has ended.
