The Ontario SPCA and Humane Society are advising pet owners take caution during cold weather.
Dog walkers should keep trips short to reduce the risk of frostbite and hypothermia for their pets.
Cats, short-coated dogs and puppies are particularly vulnerable during cold weather.
Owners should NEVER leave animals alone in a vehicle because they cool down quickly and will not hold in body heat.
The SPCA strongly recommends keeping pets indoors for the time being, with the exception of dog owners with draft-free and weatherproofed doghouses.
