Lambton Shores Municipal council has shot down a proposal for a municipal “accomodation tax” that would have essentially charged tourists a small fee for visiting Grand Bend.
The tax would have been applied when customer received their bills at restaurants and shops in Grand Bend, as was proposed as a way to help support the municipality during the off-season.
Mayor of Lambton Shores Bill Weber says that he thought the tax was a good idea, because it reduced the burden for residents to support the tourism industry.
Weber says that council didn’t outright reject the idea, but rather wanted more information on how a tax like this would work before implementing it.
