With a goal to have Grand Bend open by Canada Day, Lambton Shores mayor and Lambton County warden Bill Weber has a simple message for everyone: stay home.
Through a Facebook video posted on the weekend, Weber was in the beach town reminding people of the importance of self-isolation and social distancing, as the only way to curb COVID-19.
In the same video however he speaks to reports he’s gotten of people still carrying on as normal, including heading to the beach.
A point which frustrates him, Weber told myFM.
He says there’s no telling what the economic impact for tourism central places like Grand Bend and everywhere else at the other side of COVID-19, but says “it’s going to be huge.”
Weber hopes that people follow the guidelines and doing so gets the community to a place where Grand Bend is opened for visitors by July 1st. However he says the longer people don’t heed the warnings from public health the longer we’re in a similar situation.
