By the end of 2021 151 employees at the Continental plant in Mitchell would be out of a job as they’re closing down shop.
It was a tough road for the company which produces vibration control products.
That’s why West Perth mayor Walter McKenzie doesn’t put the entire reason of closure on the COVID-19 pandemic.
The mayor says no doubt some employees will leave the area to find work elsewhere but its his understanding a bulk of the workers have an option to retire through a severance package and hopes that means there won’t be a mass exodus from Mitchell and West Perth.
McKenzie notes they’ve been assured by Continental they’ll work to ensure their employees find other opportunities and West Perth’s economic committee will be assisting in any way possible.
