Earlier this week Western University responded to a recently published anti-racism report with action.
The report was published by the Anti-Racism Working Group, which formed in January of this year following a racially targeted incident at the school.
Based on the report, Western announced a number of measures they’re taking which includes a new special advisor and an advisory council.
The report says it heard, “from hundreds of community members about the insidious, often violent, nature of racism at Western and its devastating impact on their mental and physical health, and on their sense of well-being and belonging.”
In addition, the university has committed to additional funding for anti-racism efforts, and reviewing their exisiting policy for reporting racial incidents, among other things.
