Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MPP Monte McNaughton chimed in with his thoughts on the province’s newest math curriculum, announced earlier this week by Education Minister Stephen Lecce.
Coding and financial literacy are among the biggest additions to the elementary school math curriculum.
When asked twice, he did not specify how teachers will be taught these additions before September so they understand enough to pass lessons along.
It’s been over a decade since its last overhaul and the MPP pointed to declining math scores as a big reason for the changes.
He feels this is the best way to help students prepare for the future.
McNaughton said the government underwent a large consultation with stake holders and parents while crafting the changes.
When asked if school boards were given advance notice of these changes, McNaughton didn’t want to speak on behalf of Lecce, but said “I’m assuming there was school board involvement.”
