A new panel aims to help guide Bruce Power on the development and usage of medical isotopes.
The company announced the launch of the Medical Isotope Advisory Panel on Tuesday (23rd).
Vice-President of Corporate Affairs and Operational Services James Scongack says this panel is made up of people from the medical profession.
He says with isotopes being used around the world to treat prostate cancer and sterilize medical equipment, it is important to have a group that has a finger on the pulse of the medical world.
Scongack adds the material they produce is only valuable if it is helping those working in the front lines of the health care field.
South Bruce Grey Health Centre CEO Michael Barrett is one of eight members on this advisory panel.
The rest are:
• Paul Wynne, General Manager, International Irradiation Association (IIA) Global
• Douglas Boreham, Professor and Division Head of Medical Sciences at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine
• Dr. Sten Myrehaug, Assistant Professor, Radiation Oncology, Odette Cancer Centre at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre
• Dr. Arjun Sahgal, Radiation Oncologist, Odette Cancer Centre
• Susan Marshall, Chief Executive Officer, Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada
• Dr. Rebecca Wong, Staff Radiation Oncologist, Princess Margaret Hospital/University Health Network
• Kevin Brooks, President, Nordion
The panel will meet at an annual symposium with this first one scheduled for the third quarter of this year.
