The municipality of Bluewater passed a by-law during their last council meeting putting additional restrictions in place for any potential cannabis store or factory which may come to the area.
Mayor Paul Klopp says this helps puts the reigns on the previously few requirements needed to set up a local location.
Now, cannabis facilities with air treatment control must be a minimum 150 metres away from places like schools, places of worship, community centres, and day cares. The minimum is doubled for cannabis facilities without air treatment control.
When asked why this bylaw is coming into place two years after the legalization of cannabis, Klopp said there were other areas that needed attention first, adding two years relatively is not a long time considering the cannabis industry went from illegal to legal quickly.
