As myFM previously reported on social media, a local former golf coach is now facing a civil lawsuit on top of a criminal case for alleged historic sexual related offences.
61 year old Cameron Doig, as well as the Seaforth Golf Course are named in the suit.
A plaintiff referred to as Jane to protect her identity alleges that she was sexually abused, assaulted and exploited over the course of five years beginning in 1995.
The suit claims at the time of the allegations Doig was her golf coach, who allegedly made inappropriate comments when she was just 13, before allegedly becoming physical.
The lawsuit claims that alleged inappropriate behaviour was conducted with other young females, and manipulation was used to conduct the behaviour.
Doig is facing eight sex related charges as well as a charge for indecent assult, but none of the allegations have been proven.
Lawyer for the plaintiff, Nicole Marcus told myFM via email that the reason the Seaforth Golf Course is named is because “It is alleged that the golf course was negligent, breached its fiduciary duty to the plaintiff and is vicariously liable for the conduct of its employee and is liable to the plaintiff as a result.”
As for the civil case, myFM has learned that both defendants have retained counsel and responded to the action.
The Club’s lawyer told us in an email “The investigation of the “Jane Doe” allegations is ongoing and a present comment is premature.”
myFM reached out to Cameron Doig’s attorney for comment, and received a letter that said ” the allegations by Ms. Doe are before the court, which Mr. Doig expects to be fully exonerated. It would not be appropriate for me to comment further.”
