The Port of Goderich welcomed the first ship to its new wharf .
The new dock #8 opened back on August 29th and the first ship — MV Saginaw — arrived in early September delivering over 16 thousand (16,500) tonnes of aggregate to be used for highway construction projects.
The material was owned by Lavis Contracting who also helped construct the new dock.
Goderich Mayor John Grace says the new wharf will allow more ships to be docked and more goods to be delivered to and from Ontario.
The expanded Port was built using Port funds and more than $15.7 Million in provincial support, and no municipal tax money.
Grace says the new wharf is wide open so that it can easily load and unload goods from commodities to heavy equipment.
