The federal transport ministry is issuing two directives as a result of last month’s train derailment in Goderich.
The Railway Safety Act will be updated to include the two ministerial orders.
One will require locomotive engineers to follow “specific procedures” to stop uncontrolled movement.
The other is described as an “additional layer of defence” to the inspection process and operating rules of locomotives.
The investigation into the February 2nd derailment and crash at the Goderich harbour continues.
A transport truck and pick up truck were heavily damaged in the wreckage but no one was hurt.
