Margaret McBeath and Megan Sauer both work at NPX Innovations in Kincardine.
Margaret is the Director of Corporate Strategy and Megan is the Social Media Manager.
NPX (or Nuclear Promise X) is an organization that provides expertise in engineering and technology for the nuclear industry.
Last year during the early stages of the pandemic, NPX along with Bruce Power and the Nuclear Innovation Institute developed Grey Bruce Huron Strong, a mobile app and website that provided information on COVID-19 to the three counties.
Megan says when the pandemic began, her group got together to try and figure out how they can help their community.
She says Grey Bruce Huron Strong was designed as a regional information hub that offered statistics from public health, links to virtual events, and information about local businesses.
Megan says they have received tremendous positive feedback from people about the website as well as Kincardine Strong and Saugeen Shores Strong, two Facebook pages that were spun off from the website.
She says the experience of seeing the growth of the website and how it has shaped the community was really exciting to watch.
Margaret says the people who work at NPX are very invested in the community.
She says in addition to the website and app, they were developing prototypes of face shields and working with NII in creating a coding academy for children who could not go to school.
Margaret says having to work remotely from home allowed them to become more engaged in the community.
She says it enabled them to bring their expertise to not only local non-for-profits but those across the province and throughout Canada.
