Several school boards in Lambton-Kent-Middlesex will be getting $38.17 million from the Ontario and Provincial government to upgrade their schools to protect the students and staff from COVID-19.
The money is to support projects like HVAC renovations, the installation of water bottle refilling stations and reconfiguring spaces to allow for better social distancing.
MPP Monte McNaughton is happy to see the government supporting students and staff during this time, and stated that the “funding will go a long way towards replacing and repairing aging infrastructure within our schools.”
Funding will be allocated as follows:
· Lambton Kent District School Board – $6,288,184
· Thames Valley District School Board – $10,274,000
· London District Catholic School Board – $6,455,500
· St. Clair Catholic District School Board – $3,718,628
· Conseil scolaire Viamonde – $11,024,000
· Conseil scolaire catholique Providence – $415,800
This money adds to the over $1 billion the Ontario government has invested in new schools, childcare spaces and the addition of learning spaces since 2019 as well as the $1.4 billion the province invests annually for the maintenance and improvement of school facilities.
