Taya Currie has made history as the first girl to be drafted by the OHL. The goalie from Parkhill plays for the Elgin-Middlesex Chiefs, and has played with the boys for the past seven years, since minor atom.
Drafted by Sarnia Sting, Currie says that throughout the day she was nervous and was trying to find things to do to keep herself busy, while watching the draft also in support of her teammates. But when her name came on the screen, she says it was one of the best moments of her life.
Currie knows that now, she’s a role model for other young girls to look up too, showing them that they can do whatever they set their mind to. As for what’s next for Taya, she plans to head to the Sarnia camp and then, she says she has some decisions to make.
