On August 21st, 2011 a F3 tornado touched down in Goderich, after beginning as a waterspout over Lake Huron. It moved across the harbour from the west, moving up the lake bank before coming onshore reaching town.
It has been 10 years since this tornado, which caused one death and a few other injuries. Goderich Mayor John Grace was the Deputy Mayor at the time, and says that looking back, even though the memories with the event are mostly bad, there are some good ones.
Mayor Grace says that they don’t have plans for a big celebration to mark the anniversary, but they do want to do something to honour the life that was lost, while also paying tribute to the people that made things happened to rebuild.
