Western University and all affiliated colleges have eliminated the option for non-vaccinated students to undergo regular vaccine testing, requiring all except those who have medical or Ontario Human Rights Code exemptions to be vaccinated to be on campus.
The shift comes after a recent letter from the Council of Ontario Medical Officers of Health which strongly recommends mandatory vaccinations in all postsecondary institutions in the province.
Previously any unvaccinated students had the option to undergo twice-a-week testing, now only those with the exemptions will be given this option.
In a recently conducted survey of all students, staff and faculty, 90 per cent of respondents are fully vaccinated, and more than more than half of those remaining are planning on getting the vaccine by September.
This new policy will take effect on September 7th.
